Hello, friends and welcome to…
8 Days of Giveaways:
Day FOUR!
Hooked by Hanna is a cottage industry offering crochet creations of all kinds: unique hats, toys for babies and children, neckwear, etc. Items can be made to the customer’s preferences and specifications.
I admit it; I’m hard wired to prefer buying gifts from artists and crafters and small business owners because, unselfishly, I want my money to benefit real people and not a group of already wealthy shareholders, and, selfishly, I really love giving one-of-a-kind gifts. Last Christmas, I pinged my friend Hanna, a crochet master and fellow bibliophile (pretty sure we could talk about books for hours), and ordered boot cuffs in cream and grey (for me) and in purple (for my high school daughter). Turns out, they were some of my favorite, favorite gifts last year. Pretty. Fun. Affordable. We still have them a year later, and they’ve held up perfectly — just like new, actually. My only complaint is Abby keeps stealing mine, the punk.
In extra cool news, Hanna is giving 25% of all ready for purchase sales in the month of December to efforts gathering supplies for refugee hygiene kits. Supplies will be delivered to Syrian refugees through Medical Teams International. Gotta say, in a world that’s full of hurt where words of fear seem to fly unfettered, people like Hanna who find a way to send love and help and hope, using what she has — her hands and skeins of yarn — are light in the darkness, and I am endlessly grateful for people like her.
Today’s Giveaway is the incredibly gorgeous blue slouch hat pictured to your right.
TO ENTER, simply leave a comment on this blog post anytime until 11:59pm Pacific Time on Sunday, December 13. (Psst… don’t enter on Facebook— though I LOVE comments there and read every one, I’m using the blog comment string to randomly select a winner). Any comment will work to enter, but if you’d like a prompt, tell me about a favorite gift — given or received. It can be small or big, cost a great deal or nothing at all. For example, I’d tell you about the Wonder Woman panties Greg bought for my stocking this year which I haven’t mentioned to him yet because I want what he bought me to be a surprise. 🙂
This giveaway is now closed.
Congratulations, Heather! Look for a message from me with all the details!
P.S. You can find Hooked by Hanna on Facebook here. You can find all of Hanna’s ready-to-purchase items here.
P.P.S. There are boot cuffs in that ready-to-purchase album, and if anyone **ahem*Greg*ahem** wants to buy me blue or grey fingerless gloves, or one of the chiffon/crochet mixed fabric infinity scarves, I’d be OK with that.
P.P.P.S. Or commission Hanna to make me some silver Wonder Woman wrist cuffs. That could work out for you, Greg. Like, that could work out for you real well, man. Just saying.

Do Note: Multiple giveaways are going simultaneously — one every day for 8 days and each of them open for 48ish hours, so check back every day to see what new giveaways there are!
Also Note: This giveaway is open worldwide. None of this “America only” crap. We do not have time for America Only in this ComeUnity. Hanna is providing the blue slouch hat and U.S. shipping; I’ll supplement shipping if one of you wins from elsewhere.
Also-also Note: The artists selected for this giveaway were hand-picked by yours truly. They did not pay for these spots, nor do I benefit in any financial way by hosting these. Emotionally? I get a HUGE benefit. ‘Cause this stuff makes me happy. Each artist received a spot on the right sidebar (or, if you’re viewing on your mobile, at the bottom of the page) to advertise his/her stuff (hint: you can catch a preview there of what’s coming over the next few days), which is my gift to them to thank them for partnering with me. They’re rad.

Commissioned Wonder Woman cuffs are a brilliant idea!
I love that color of blue! beautiful work!
Hanna has some lovely items! So much talent.
My favorite gift to give is pretty much anything to my kids – they are so excited about anything they get!
One of my favorite gifts was a knife sharpener from my husband. I love the practical things and it showed that he’d heard me when I commented about my dull knives and my inability to old-school sharpen them. 🙂
Hard to pick a favorite gift received, but my hubby says one of the best gifts I gave him was a pair of black Crocs slippers (yes the goofy rubber things with holes) with the fuzzy inserts. He still wears them around the house–guess that means we have cold floors?! The slouch hat is beautiful–I crochet and could do it all day long–!
I have not idea what my best gift was… I’ve been given many things I liked and enjoyed but no particular one stands out. I think I remember gifts I’ve given better… like the crocodile statue i gave my grandfather when he was building a pond. He always joked about putting a crocodile in there to scare away stray cats. He never finished the pond but still has the statue.
Best gift: A watch. There was nothing special about it, but my (first) husband bought it in my presence and told me it was for his mom. Later, when we were finishing shopping we had a HUGE fight because he still had to buy a gift for his mom. I reminded him that he already had the watch, and he had no other way to shut me up except by fighting about it. I thought he was out of his mind until Christmas.
Best gift…. Hm. It wasn’t for Christmas. My mom gave me my great grandmother’s bracelet (been passed down the generations) on my Confirmation day. So special.
My husband always gets the best gifts. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he also gets me the WORST gifts…but when they’re good, they’re REALLY good!
How lovely! I love it. One of my favorite gifts given was last Christmas to my husband – I gave him a binder with 12 dates preplanned – one for each month of the year. After he read the letter in it, the binder was really for me to use as I put into action 12 lovely dates. We just had our last one. I’ll miss it!
Beautiful hat!
I love the color of the blue slouch hat! And I’m not a hat person, but this looks like one I would actually wear!
Ummmm, this is beautiful.. seriously my favorite color and everything. I’m really usually in the giving spirit this time of year, but I would love this, and hug this and keep it for my very own!
Beautiful
I love this idea and would love to be a winner!!!
Favorite gift was a year after my sweet Mama went to heaven, my sister sent me one of my Mom’s wallets filled with gift cards to some of mine and Mama’s favorite places. It was perfect!! Now, we take turns giving the wallet back and forth to each other, filled with different gift cards! xoxox
I hang my Christmas tree with momentos from trips or from people who want me to remember them. One of my favorites was from my Austruan foreign exchange student who made me one herself. She is not crafty. She stapled a print out picture of herself to an Austruan flag she drew and strung the whole thing up with a tiny bit of red thread. It makes me laugh!
Handmade gifts are the best because you know what care and love went into them just for you.
Me! me! me! I want the incredibly gorgeous blue slouch!
The best gift I have been given was from my oldest son when he was about 8. He made a diorama of me doing all my favorite things: camping, kayaking, & hiking. He took a picture of me & put my face in the kayak & the boots, but my favorite part was my face sticking sideways out of a tent. I love it so much!
Definitely anything handmade by the kids!
I think my body has forgotten how to sleep through the night. After five years, the much anticipated “kids mostly sleeping all night” has arrived, but I no longer remember how to sleep. I envy my husband and his ability to sleep for 12 hours straight on his days off.
But hey, all of the not-sleeping has led me here to say, “pick me! I want a hat!” I would love to be able to crochet beautiful wearable things, but as it is I can’t do All The Things, or even Most Of The Things.
I can’t pick a favorite. It’s been a lifelong problem of mine – even as a kid, the pressure of being asked “what’s your favorite color?” felt like I was being asked to betray all other colors. Colors (and gifts) have feelings too. Can you tell I’m a chronic people pleaser?

The best gift I have given is a photo album for my husband. My two daughters reenacted a bunch of photos from their baby and toddler years. We then combined them into an album with the originals. My hubby LOVE it, and it was a blast to make it with my girls! All new memories were made reenacting the old memories!
